Fastest Way to a Clean Convention Center

by | Jan 11, 2024

Maintaining a clean convention center takes a lot of work and resource. Convention centers are huge, with the biggest, McCormick Place in Chicago, boasting 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space alone. The venue also has enormous meeting rooms, ballrooms, theaters, and a whole wing of shops, restaurants, and other visitor amenities.

As expected, convention centers are incredibly busy. Chicago’s McCormick Place hosts around three million visitors per year. Even the relatively petite Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., with only 703,000 square feet of exhibition space, sees a robust 1.5 million attendees a year.

Keeping these busy mini cities in good shape is a hard, and expensive, job. Between their huge size, busy schedule, wide variety of environments, multiple building materials, and increasing sustainability goals, maintaining a really clean convention center can feel nearly impossible to achieve.

Luckily there are many tools and machines to make convention center cleaning easier, faster, and more complete.

DYI Clean Event Center

Most of the nation’s 250 convention or event centers hire out a Buildings Service Contractor to do their cleaning. But not all. In 2018, The Cobo Center in Detroit, MI brought their cleaning services in house. Management  expected to save nearly $200,000 or 10% of their $1.75 million-a-year-budget with the move.

A lot has happened since 2018, including a global pandemic that threatened to bring the trade show industry to its knees. A few years later and the event and convention market appears to be rebounding. However, the importance of safe, clean convention centers remains top of mind, no matter who is doing the work.

Some event and convention centers even got Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) accreditation.  This GBAC® STAR accreditation demonstrates that facility managers remain committed to the health and wellness of staff and guests by providing a hygienic indoor environment. That commitment often includes using advanced cleaning technology for the best clean.

Clean Event Centers Start with the Floor

Advanced technology should help maintain a convention center’s massive amounts of floors. The problem is these floors are usually different types of materials, so a commercial carpet cleaning machine may be fine for one area but not on hard surface floors.

Unless that machine in the new All Floor™ cleaning system from Kaivac. The All Floor combines the best features of vacuums, floor scrubbers, and mops into one easy-to-use machine. Workers can tackle 25,000 square feet of flooring per hour without having to change machines. Simply pull a tab to move from carpet to hard floor and back again.

The All Floor also features a:

  • Breakaway wand: to vacuum hard to reach areas.
  • Extra-long hose attachment: to clean high areas.
  • Spot cleaner: to remove stains before they ruin carpet.
  • Wet/dry vac: To pick up spill quickly and completely.

Sanitary Food Service for Clean Event Centers

Keeping event center kitchens clean and grease free is challenging for all food service staff. An advanced tool like the UniVac® from Kaivac makes kitchen cleanup fast, easy, and complete. The machine removes grease and fallen food, keeping it off the floor and out of the floor drain.

Many quick service restaurants and busy commercial kitchens already know and love their UniVac. A district manager from a popular fried chicken restaurant explains. “After a busy Friday night no one wants to spend half an hour on just the kitchen floor,” she says. “Staff are excited to use the UniVac. It’s quick and effective.”

Sparkling Restrooms for Clean Convention Centers

Everyone judges the cleanliness of a space by the state of its restroom. It’s true for offices, restaurants, shops, and event centers. Restrooms, because of their size, frequency of use, and nature of the mess, are also the hardest space to clean.

The large capacity No-Touch Cleaning® system from Kaivac lets workers maintain these spaces quickly, consistently, and without having to touch or get close to unpleasant messes. These machines are easy to learn, leave floors dry, and are 60 times better in removing smelly bacteria from grout lines. Plus, they allow workers to clean restrooms three times faster than traditional mops and rags.

Ready to upgrade your clean convention center solutions? Look to Kaivac. No matter the mess, there’s a Kaivac machine for the job.
