The Dairy Queen Grill & Chill in Clinton Township, MI has been in Jacob Schroeder’s family since his grandmother opened it in 1972. His parents took the business over in 1999, when Schroeder was just six-weeks old. Today, Jacob Schroeder is the assistant general manager, and the location stays as busy as ever, serving hot food and frozen treats to between 800 to 1000 customers a week.

Another thing that hasn’t changed is the store’s original quarry tile floor. Cleaning the 52-year-old surface used to take up a lot of Schroeder’s time, particularly when using mops and buckets. “The floors just looked like trash after we were done,” he said. “We even bought a swing machine. The floors looked better, but it was still a lot of effort.”

So, Schroeder and his family looked to Kaivac for answers. They purchased a KaiVac® 1250 through SupplyDen. Their investment in the No-Touch Cleaning® system made an immediate difference throughout the restaurant.

“The Kaivac 1250 instantly changed the look of the floors. We had so much build-up on the tile, especially in our lobby and dining area. Now the floors look great, and it only takes about half the time,” he says.

Schroeder finds ways to clean with the No-Touch Cleaning system throughout the store. Every night the closing crew uses the tool to clean grease and sticky messes from the kitchen’s chill and grill areas. Schroeder uses the spray feature wash down walls and the exteriors of the cooking equipment. He especially likes the way it cleans equipment wheels which get gummed up from accumulated dirt and sugary residue. “I’ve even taken the KaiVac 1250 outside to pressure wash the menu board,” he says.

Of course, the KaiVac 1250 makes cleaning restrooms, including the walls, quick and easy. “The No-Touch Cleaning system gets the dirt off everything,” Schroeder shares. “The restrooms sparkle afterward.”

Schroeder is impressed by the way the technology handles accidents. “Mix spills happen and it’s a huge mess,” he says. “Using the Kaivac to rinse down and suck up the spill is so much better than using a ton of towels and a mops.” Schroeder’s dad also uses the machine to pick up spills when changing out the fryer oil.

While very happy with the KaiVac 1250, Schroeder is interested in investing in a UniVac® as well. Adding the smaller machine to his fleet will make daily cleaning even easier. “I really like the KaiVac 1250 but it’s like a tank and sometimes you want something smaller,” he says. “Adding the UniVac will make it easier to get the floors really clean every night. We still have six mops and three buckets, and our goal is to get rid of them all. The UniVac can make that happen.”
