When Steve Sweney, owner of Patriot Carpet Cleaning LLC, expanded into facilities cleaning, and landed his first big client, he knew it was time to invest in some new equipment. His company was already cleaning commercial and residential carpets, but the Saginaw Family YMCA in was a whole different prospect.

“It’s an immense place,” says Sweney of the 95,000-square-foot facility, “with three big locker rooms, two small locker rooms, and six additional restrooms. I didn’t want to think about crawling over all of those toilets and urinals to clean them. And I definitely didn’t want to use a mop.”

Sweney looked for a solution that met three very important criteria. The equipment had to work well, it had to be easy to learn and use, and it had to be made in the U.S.A. Fortunately, Kaivac helped meet all of those requirements.

Kaivac Helps in the Restroom

His search led him to the KaiVac® 1250. The no-touch technology allowed him to efficiently deliver clean restrooms that impressed staff and customers alike. “The YMCA started getting emails about how clean the place is and how white the grout looks,” Sweney reports. “Members were definitely noticing the difference in appearance and smell.”

Even Sweney’s crew of five were excited about using the KaiVac 1250, particularly the three employees with previous janitorial experience. “After our training, they said this is too fun to be work,” says Sweney. “Everyone really appreciates the No-Touch technology.” He also really values the automatic chemical metering system, designed to prevent using an excessive amount of cleaning solution. This saves the company both time and money.

Sweney was so impressed with how Kaivac helped improve results and ease-of-use that he purchased two more machines, the KaiVac® 2750 and the AutoVac Stretch™. The larger KaiVac 2750 lets staff cover larger areas without stopping to refill the tank. This frees up time for the cleaning crew to focus on more detail work like polishing mirrors and glass.

Cleaning Hard Floors with Kaivac

The AutoVac Stretch is perfect for servicing the Y’s variety of floor surfaces, including rubber, VCT, laminate and hardwood floors, according to Sweney. “There was quite a layer of soap residue on the floors. I had to run the AutoVac Stretch with just plain water for two weeks straight to remove the sticky, dull buildup,” he says. “Now you can really see the shine.”

Word about Sweney’s success at the YMCA has gotten out, and helped land him new clients. “Kaivac helped me grow the janitorial part of my business,” he says. “The equipment is easy to use and the customer service is great. It’s a no-brainer.”
