The restroom is commonly known as the most bacteria-filled place in a school, but the gym is a close second. Like restrooms, gym surfaces constantly come into contact with bodily fluids such as sweat, saliva, urine, and blood. All of these substances, both by themselves and as food for bacteria, pose a health hazard for students. If your school maintenance staff is still cleaning the gym using traditional methods such as mops, brooms, and cleaning rags, they're doing more harm than good by spreading bacteria around. Newer and more effective methods of maintaining a clean gym remove more bacteria and save time on daily maintenance.
A surprising amount of bodily fluid gets deposited on gym floors, so every time a student falls down or sits on the floor, they're exposed to numerous bacteria. The traditional method of cleaning gym floors is by sweeping and mopping with a mop and bucket. Unfortunately, when the mop is dipped back into the water after wiping the floor, all the bacteria on it is mixed in with the mop water. It then gets picked up with the mop again, only to be spread around on an even bigger area.
Kaivac has a better method for maintaining a clean gym floor: the OmniFlex AutoVac. This high-performance floor machine is gentle on finish, and gets floors as clean as an expensive autoscrubber, but with much less effort and in a shorter amount of time. A cleaning solution is mixed into the bucket and dispensed onto the floor through a spigot. A hitch on the back of the bucket has a microfiber floor pad that immediately spreads the solution. The floor pad is followed by a vacuum squeegee that sucks up all the liquid, instantly leaving floors clean and dry. This system is much quicker than traditional mopping, and it gets the floors much cleaner and safer.
Locker rooms pose even more danger of spreading bacteria, since, like common restrooms, they include fixtures such as sinks and showers. Mops and rags can't clean this room either, for the same reason: they spread around the dirt instead of removing it, and the water becomes dirtier every time you rinse the mop or rag in the bucket.
With the Kaivac No-Touch cleaning system, maintenance workers spend less time cleaning with better results. A cleaning solution is sprayed onto surfaces and allowed to sit for a few moments. When the soil has been loosened, a high-pressure spray removes all soil and cleaning solution, rinsing it down to the floor. Once the dirty water with its load of bacteria is all on the floor, a powerful wet/dry vacuum removes the liquid, leaving the floors clean and dry. This method can be used for locker areas, showers, restrooms and even changing rooms, all with much less effort than traditional cleaning methods.
